Today is my stop on the blog tour for Anything You Do Say by Gillian McAllister! I took part in the cover reveal for this book not too long ago, so I'm very excited to be able to share my review as part of the blog tour.
Thanks to Jenny for organising everything! :)
Don't forget to check out the rest of the stops!
Joanna is an avoider. So far she has spent her adult life hiding bank statements and changing career aspirations weekly.
But then one night Joanna hears footsteps on the way home. Is she being followed? She is sure it's him; the man from the bar who wouldn't leave her alone. Hearing the steps speed up Joanna turns and pushes with all of her might, sending her pursuer tumbling down the steps and lying motionless on the floor.
Now Joanna has to do the thing she hates most - make a decision. Fight or flight? Truth or lie? Right or wrong?
I think what really makes this book so addictive, is that not only is it thought-provoking, it also has a fantastically executed and unique plot. Two stories run parallel, Conceal and Reveal, almost like two books in one! The originality of the plot alone gets 5 out of 5 from me and I really enjoyed how it was written. The attention to detail was brilliant and the writing had me hooked.
The characters were well-developed and engaging, Joanna in particular. I went on two totally different journeys with her and I was constantly on the edge of my seat. Reading this book, you can't help but wonder what you would've done in that situation.
I haven't read Gillian's first book, Everything But the Truth, but my word, I think I've definitely missed out by not reading it if it's anything as good as this one!
Overall, I'm giving Anything You Do Say 5 out of 5 and adding it to my Five Star Favourites Shelf! It was original, memorable and addictive. I will certainly be looking out for more from Gillian McAllister.
Anything You Do Say will be published by Penguin in e-book 19/10/17 and paperback 25/1/18
