When I first read a sample for this book two months ago, I was absolutely obsessed straight away! It was immersive and I was left desperate to find out the secrets of One Folgate Street. I gave the extract 5/5 and had lots of expectations for the finished book. I was lucky enough to receive a copy to review, and I've got to say, it definitely didn't let me down.
I became attached to the characters straight away and immediately was desperate to find out more about their stories, and especially what happened to Emma. Then Edward got more involved in the storyline and everything got a whole lot more intense.
I loved the alternating points of view of Emma and Jane running alongside each other and I found that it definitely added a lot to the storyline. Seeing the similarities between the two women being told side by side from different perspectives created a sense of foreboding, made me, as a reader, will Jane not to follow the same path. I was also able to connect with the characters more. Towards the end of the book, the dual narrative created so much tension and picked up the speed of the story. I found myself racing through the pages and actually noticed that I was on edge. Then the final big twist came and once again, I was willing Jane not to follow Emma's path. (You'll have to read the book to find out whether she had the same fate as Emma of course!)
For the sheer amount of tension it had, and how attached and involved I became, I'm giving this book 4.5/5. The only downside for me being sometimes a little too much detail in certain areas.
An extremely intriguing and tense read that I'd definitely recommend.
