The Synopsis

Picture

An anonymous caller has promised to set off deadly bombs in Washington, D.C. A cruel hoax or the real deal? By the time Alex Cross and his wife, Bree Stone, uncover the chilling truth, it may already be too late...

My Review

Picture
I received a copy of this from Dead Good Books at Noirwich and I was thrilled, as I love James Patterson's books and hadn't read one for quite a while. I was even more intrigued by the fact that is was a 'BookShots' story and described as 'All killer, no filler.' This sounded ideal as sometimes I fancy a shorter story after a particularly long read or during a week when I won't have as much time for reading, but sometimes I find that a short story isn't quite enough, so at 131 pages, this was perfect.
For me, it was just as good as the full length Alex Cross books I've read and in fact any others by James Patterson.
Obviously since it's a shorter book, I think it does help to have an awareness of the series and the characters in it, as I felt like I had a deeper understanding of the characters from reading previous books which I perhaps wouldn't have done if I'd never heard of Alex Cross before.
The plot was tense and action-packed which I thoroughly enjoyed. I didn't feel like the book lacked anything by being shorter and I was completely hooked from the first page to the last.
Overall, I'm giving Detective Cross 5 out of 5. It was perfectly paced, perfectly enthralling and perfectly sized. I'll definitely have my eye out for more BookShots!
