Welcome!
I post book reviews as often as possible but at least once a week every Wednesday! I hope they help you to find some new books that you'll love as much as I did!
Today is my stop on the blog tour for Macbeth by Jo Nesbo where I'm posting a review and a giveaway! Thanks so much to Mia for organising the tour and don't forget to check out the rest of the stops! The SynopsisHe’s the best cop they’ve got. When a drug bust turns into a bloodbath it’s up to Inspector Macbeth and his team to clean up the mess. He’s also an ex-drug addict with a troubled past. He’s rewarded for his success. Power. Money. Respect. They’re all within reach. But a man like him won’t get to the top. Plagued by hallucinations and paranoia, Macbeth starts to unravel. He’s convinced he won’t get what is rightfully his. Unless he kills for it. My ReviewWhilst I’ve never read Shakespeare’s Macbeth, I am aware of the rough plot outline and it was brilliant to see how Jo Nesbo followed this same plot but still managed to put his own contemporary stamp on his version of Macbeth. He’s created a city full of drugs, crime and police corruption and really brought it to life with such skilled writing. (Translated by Don Bartlett who’s done an absolutely fantastic job.) Although it did take me a little while to get into at the beginning, suddenly it draws you right in and once this happened, I was absolutely riveted and didn’t want to put it down. It’s very dark and violent and even ruthless at times, but this just contributes to the intensity, tension and very strong atmosphere of the novel as it builds up towards the dramatic end. This is the first Jo Nesbo book I’ve read and I think it’s the perfect one to start off with if you haven’t read anything by him either as its completely standalone enabling you to dive straight in and really enjoy it. Overall, I’m giving Macbeth 4 out of 5. It’s dark, atmospheric and riveting. I’ll definitely be reading more by Jo Nesbo. This book was provided free in exchange for an honest review. Best of luck! About the AuthorJo Nesbo is one of the world’s bestselling crime writers, with The Leopard, Phantom, Police, The Son and his latest Harry Hole novel, The Thirst, all topping the Sunday Times bestseller charts. He's an international number one bestseller and his books are published in 50 languages, selling over 33 million copies around the world.
Before becoming a crime writer, Nesbo played football for Norway’s premier league team Molde, but his dream of playing professionally for Spurs was dashed when he tore ligaments in his knee at the age of eighteen. After three years military service he attended business school and formed the band Di derre ('Them There'). They topped the charts in Norway, but Nesbo continued working as a financial analyst, crunching numbers during the day and gigging at night. When commissioned by a publisher to write a memoir about life on the road with his band, he instead came up with the plot for his first Harry Hole crime novel, The Bat.
